Robber threatens woman with bat along Greenville Avenue
Update 6pm - DPD says 'bat' robberies were committed by same persons, asks area residents for help and tips
Dallas Morning News, May 9, 2008
Dallas police are looking for suspects in two robberies of young women along Greenville Avenue early Thursday morning.
Police say the incidents might be related since the robbers in both cases were armed with objects – a bat in one case – as they approached their victims, taking a wallet, a purse, money and credit and debit cards. The robberies were within several blocks of each other between midnight and 2 a.m., according to police reports.
In the first case, the robbers ran toward a woman as she walked with two others in the 2600 block of Greenville near Velasco Avenue. A robber hit her in the face with an unknown object.
In the second case, a robber used a bat to threaten a woman as she walked with another person in the 3200 block of Greenville near Monticello Avenue. The robbers fled in a small gold- or copper-colored four-door vehicle.
NOTE: BD has confirmed this robbery took place close to the San Francico Rose and the victim broke her ankle during the robbery. WFAA News8 is reporting that one of the victims also lost some teeth due to the impact of the bat. More details to follow!
There hasn’t been a recent rash of robberies along Greenville, Dallas police Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse said. But he suggests that people in the area be aware of their surroundings, don’t go out late on their own and walk in well-lit areas.
Dallas police often patrol that area, and the department will "definitely keep an eye out in the area for any suspicious activity," Senior Cpl. Janse said.

How ironic that their advice is to walk in well lit areas.
The lighting in our neighborhoods around Upper and Lower Greenville is shameful.
Not to mention the lack of any lighting in the alleyways....the same alleyways that seem to be the only place that attracts any code compliance from the city.
We personally have been cited now for high grass and also small amounts of graffiti in our alley while noise, parking, COA and issues regarding licenses for "bars vs restaurant" status go ignored.

On 5-8-08 (Thursday morning) between 12:00am and 1:30am there were two robbery's on Greenville Ave. One occurred in the 2600 block and the other in the 3200 block. We believe that the suspects were the same ones on both offenses. The description is two Latin males in their early 20's, one was wearing a hoodie sweatshirt and was carrying a bat. A witness observed the suspects get into a small, gold, 4 door vehicle, which was already occupied by a driver, and leave the location.
Please be vigilant and aware of your surroundings when you are out in your neighborhood. Please call 911 immediately if you see any suspicious persons or vehicles parked on your streets or idling with someone in them that you do not recognize.
If you observed anything suspicious on Thursday morning and this rings a bell, please let us know immediately. Thanks for your help.
