A Dallas Police Department officer was slightly injured on Sunday morning while trying to arrest a bar patron inside the Sugar Shack.

The injured officer, whose name is being withheld, told other officers he was struggling on the Sugar Shack floor while trying to arrest a patron when someone hit him on the back of the head with a beer bottle. Dallas Fire/Rescue teams already on the street for TX-OU problems treated him at the DPD staging area near Taco Cabana and then transported him to the hospital for further examination of the wound on the lower portion of his scalp (above the shirt neckline) Stitches were not required.

While the officer was able to describe the person who hit him, the assailant was not located by 230am. The person being subdued was arrested for public intoxication and taken to Detox shortly after the incident. (Click here for police report)

This was the first injury to a DPD officer working on Lower Greenville in nearly a year - another officer was treated for a broken lip last year after being cold-cocked by an unknown assailant last year.

DPD reported arresting 28 persons for public intoxication and other issues on Friday night, and by 230am Sunday morning had arrested 13 persons for similar issues. For both Friday and Saturday, DPD and Parking Enforcement ticketed 47 illegally parked vehicles, of which 26 were towed off. Towing of vehicles left by bar patrons on the Taco Cabana lot was very active on Saturday evening.
