Alex Salinas, gangbanger club owner, is now a former City official
For years, bar owner Alex Salinas has been going around bragging about two of his titles - owner of Lowest Greenville's largest gangbanger bar, and being an 'official' of the City of Dallas. He had no problem pushing his 'official' status, waving his identification card (really a parking pass) as an alternate appointee to the City's Appraisal Review Board (read - he did not sit at the table unless else died) and even using it to tell Dallas Police officers to enforce a TRO against BD that did not even exist (see story - Ethics? We don't need no stinkin' ethics on Lowest Greenville...)
It might be hard to top the gangbanger bar owner title, but BD can say with absolute certainty, Alex, you ain't a City Official any more....
Salinas was appointed to the panel by former City Council member Dr. Elba Garcia. She was replaced due to term limits by Delia Jasso in last May's Council elections, making him a holdover appointee until a new person could be appointed. In the meantime, Salinas had no problem bragging to anyone who would got too close that he was a city official. As recently as last month, he used that same old tired line in a conversation with a Lowest Greenville bar operator. He often spoke of seeking public office at City Hall in the future. One government employee source told BD that Salinas never signed any legal documents or contracts which could come back and bite his political ass in the future.

BD has confirmed with the highest sources in Ms Jasso's office that Salinas was told of his pending removal from the panel months ago. According to this source -
Ms Jasso has never met Salinas, and has no idea who he is. She's absolutely not happy to see her name tied to someone causing problems in another Council District or anywhere else in Dallas.
Salinas will be replaced by a well-known community activist from Oak Cliff, but until the Council formally approves the nomination in April, Salinas' name is still on the City's website as a member. But in fact, he's been off the panel for a long time.
We are still scratching our heads trying to understand how holding any public position makes a difference on Lowest Greenville. By any measure, his two clubs were among the most consistent violators of after-hours service rules, lost their TABC license for several months, had the most fights (and most pepper spray use), and attracted the lowest form of gangbangers and hoochie mamas - who could not get into any other bars around here - to the street on a regular basis.
On the recent St. Patrick's Day weekend, Salinas hired an off-duty officer from Wortham, Texas to watch his doors. This officer refused to provide his identification to BD upon legal demand; within 24 hours was fired from his reserve officer position for working off-duty illegally and carrying the Wortham PD weapon outside of their city limits (story link here). That same evening, one of his bouncer goons was videotaped about to dispense a can of Whup-Ass on a patron who allegedly caused a fight in the bar - nearly 300 feet away from the bar (story link here).
After both incidents, Salinas made it a point to follow BD with his little camera, trying to pick a fight while yelling obscenities and threats the whole time. But since BD only heard annoying buzzing noises coming out of this human POS, the threats were ignored.
While BD is excited beyond words to hear Salinas won't be making a damn bit of difference at City Hall anymore, we can only hope his gangbanger club takes a similar dive off the deep end before an innocent person gets killed on the street by one of his thug customers. That would definitely hurt any chances he had for seeking public office in the future.
