Whole Foods buries its bones on Lowest Greenville
BD been getting calls in the wee hours about activity taking place inside the former Whole Foods location on Lowest Greenville. One day, it's a van full of men and women in black suits going inside for hours. The next day, it's work vans parked by the doors secretly unloading really big boxes of god knows what.
Late Wednesday night, while walking the dogs, BD spied a large truck with a cargo hauler parked at the main entrance to Whole Foods. Trying to look as nonchalant as possible, BD wanders over and looks inside the store - desolate is the first word that comes to mind, with interruptions of empty crates. Two scruffy but friendly workers were loading two big things into the hauler and gave BD greetings of the evening. That started a conversation wherein they confirmed they were Whole Foods employees loading things for the Lakewood store - and even knew about the 4pm blackout at the store caused by a car hitting the transformer pole on Abrams and Richmond (BD was at the store when the lights went out).
As BD stared into the empty expanse of the store, one of the workers told BD - without prompting - This is our boneyard. All the old gear from this store is still here, and lots of new gear for the new store in Fairview (Allen, TX) is coming through here. We have to keep the building clean and all, but for now it's just a big boneyard. (not sic)
BD inquired as to how long the boneyarding will last, and without any hesitation, he answered - 2012 (but he did not specify what month).
Yes, folks, we can look forward to a big empty 35,000 sf hole on Lowest Greenville for at least the next 18 months.
And you wonder why we call it W(T)F??
