Vonciel Jones Hill to anti-PD petitioners: STFU (updated)

Allow BD to practice law on the Internet for just a moment or two.

One of the most basic of basic rights of citizens is the ability to petition the government for the redress of grievances. Every teabagger knows the First Amendment to the Constitution says...

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

A petition once meant a piece of paper, a simple statement, and your signature in support thereof. In the 21st Century, the Internet has replaced the paper, with e-petitions making it easier for more people to get involved in the most common of citizen acts.

Just not in Dallas.

You would think that here in Dallas, even the lowliest of our elected officials would understand that a petition is our way of saying, Hey (fill in the blank) is a (dumb or good) idea. Sadly, Dallas City Council Member Vonciel Jones Hill (District 5), and per her blog certified eligible for appointment to the State Bar of Texas, is not one of them.

As noted on the Dallas Observer Unfair Park blog, the StopThePD.com website has been collecting petitions in protest of the proposed Lowest Greenville PD for delivery to City Council members. It seems Ms Hill is not very interested in having so many people (250 and counting) giving their opinion on this issue. Late Wednesday evening, Ms Hill sent an email to StopThePD, with a simple message - Stop your bitchin' already.

If you want to be absolutely certain that I will NOT support your position, then you just keep up this email attack.

Kindly,

Vonciel Jones Hill
Councilmember
District 5

She did not say, Hey, I already have an opinion and your petitions will not change it, or Hey, I get it, thank you for writing anyway. No, it was simply STFU.

Who says we can't have fun with our council representatives. We seriously doubt her opinion will change soon (or even after the 1,000th petition is databased and delivered), but it's good to know she really really cares what you think, provided you keep your voice at the murmur level. BD is just waiting for someone to blame him for her bad attitude, in 5-4-3-2-1...

Update @ 10pm - CM Hill has an immense dislike for dogs of all kinds, but especially this blogger. Just a few hours after BD pushed this story to his mailing list (which includes City Council members), Ms Hill fired back another message over the Dog Pound, which you can read below. BD has made a New Years resolution to stay out of her district for awhile, unless he brings along a few bodyguards.
