Yom Ha'Atzmahut ha-60 (Happy 60th Israel Independence Day)

Regular BD readers know he spent three years living in Israel as a student and then a kibbutznik between 1977 and 1980. Despite the claims by some scumbar owners that BD is an illegal immigrant, he is an American citizen born in Philadelphia.

While living in Israel, BD was a witness to historic events on a scale that still gives him goosebumps. On the extreme side, the Coastal Road Massacre in March 1978 killed 35 Israelis and one American, and put the entire area where BD was living under martial law (the first and last time it ever happened) for a few days. On the good side, Anwar Sadat made his historic trip to Israel and spoke to the Israeli Knesset (November 1978).

Who wants to play with the bubblegum lights?

Despite what this may look like, it is not a picture of a crowd watching BD get arrested for beating up a tow-truck driver.

It is, rather, the members of the Dallas Police Department's Citizen's Academy Class #26 getting an up-close view of the operating details of a Dallas Police squad car at the just-opened South Central Division Station last night. We'd like to tell you some of the secrets, but then we'd have to kill you.

BD and 30 other residents are participating in this unique program, held three times a year since 1993 (this is the first year there is a Spring and Fall class only). The class meets every Tuesday evening for eight weeks at places like the Dallas Police Basic Academy, the Jack Evans DPD Headquarters, the 911 Call Center and the DPD Pistol Range.

BD has created a blog where you can read his class notes and see more pictures like this - click here...

Can it get any worse?? (Except there is no film)

The video BD and others posted this morning, showing two alleged perps walking down a residential alley with guns held high, has been deleted from YouTube. The real story would take more electrons than we have handy, but local media and the DPD have confirmed it was not an armed robbery in the making. Let's just call it viral marketing meets To Kill a Mockingbird, and leave it at that.

If you live in East Dallas, or anywhere in Dallas for that matter, you know how bad crime is getting.

More parking spaces go 'poof'

More parking spaces are evaporating from Lower Greenville side-streets every day.

Permanent No Parking Between The Signs signs are installed on the south side of the 5700 block of Richmond, starting at the pastry shop driveway and going to the large residential building currently occupied by a psychic. Total number of parking spaces taken: 20.

Do you think she knew it was coming??

A picture is worth a thousand words, or eight towed cars, whichever comes first

This does not include the eight or ten cars pulled off the Blockbuster parking lot starting around midnight.
