And the walls came tumbling down...

The much-anticipated first step in the construction process for Trader Joe's Lowest Greenville started at 8:35 am this Thursday morning, when demolition started on the old Encore nightclub on Sears Street. This opens up space for customer parking behind the store, slated to be built on the former Arcadia Theatre space on Greenville Avenue.

According to old criss-cross directories, the building was a transmission repair facility. It was the only building with its own attached loading dock. The demolition confirmed the super-thick walls, with a strength you could almost feel standing inside and can see in this photo.

BD was there when the first bricks fell down this morning. You can see the complete photo library at this link.
